Gordon
Giltrap - a special concert evening at the Hinckley ACT in
Leicestershire

Over the past
forty years, Gordon
Giltrap
has graced the music business with his dedication
to his craft and his affection for his audience. As one of the UK’s
most respected guitarists, he has consistently proved the adage
that respect cannot be bought. It must be earned. Gordon’s music
continues to evade categorisation, influenced as it is by the rock
guitar of Hank Marvin and Pete Townshend, the folk guitar of Bert
Jansch and John Renbourn, and the classical guitar of Julian Bream
and John Williams.

25 studio albums

He has
released 25 original studio albums, plus numerous live albums and
compilations. There is currently no sign of Gordon hanging up his
guitars, and he still performs dozens of concerts a year around the
country, earning the respect of fans and fellow musicians alike.
Gordon has been a keen supporter of arthritis and leukaemia
charities. His contribution was recognised in 2000, when he was
inducted into the oldest showbusiness charity in history, The Grand
Order of Water Rats. His first performance DVD – Live At Huntingdon
Hall – was released in 2003, and reveals the ample skill and charm
of one of this country’s national treasures. In 2005, Gordon staged
a special concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall, performing his own
compositions as a solo artist, with guest musicians from
contrasting disciplines, and with the Sheffield Philharmonic
Orchestra. Other more recent projects include “Three Parts Guitar”
with John Etheridge and Ray Burley, which performed a series of
concerts in 2009. 2010 will see the inclusion of Clive Carroll in
this supergroup and an album is expected in the spring.

Dave Swarbrick was due to be one of a number of high profile artists scheduled to appear at what promises to be one of the Midland’s leading musical events of 2011. More announcements about guest artists will appear shortly.

Dave helped create greater interest in British traditional music and was highly influential within mainstream rock. After 1970 he emerged as Fairport Convention’s leading figure and guided the band through a series of important albums until its disbandment in 1979.

Post Fairport Convention

Since then he has played in a series of smaller, acoustic units and engaged in solo projects which have maintained a massive output of recordings, a significant profile and have made a major contribution to the interpretation of traditional British music.

In 2004 he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. In 2006 Swarb started touring again with ex-Fairporter Maartin Allcock and Kevin Dempsey as Swarb’s Lazarus; they appeared at the Cropredy Festival.
In 2007 Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick won the ‘Best Duo’ Award at the BBC Radio Two Folk Awards.

Since then he has collaborated with many notable musicians, worked in theatre and film, and played as far afield as Hokitika and Abidjan.
